Annual Vision Exams

An annual vision exam is an opportunity for our doctors to assess the overall health of your eyes.  It’s important that everyone in your family, especially children, to have their regular exams. Since children are still developing, it’s important to identify any problems early on before they interfere with school, sports, or other activities. During the eye exam, our doctors will also use a series of standard tests to see how well your eyes are functioning.

Common Optical Tests

There are several optical tests that we commonly use. The first is a visual acuity test that determines how well someone can see both near and far distances. A refraction test indicates if someone is myopic (nearsighted), hyperopic (farsighted), or astigmatic. We also test your depth perception and peripheral vision. As part of your comprehensive optical exam, our optometrists test your color vision and perception. Your eye focusing ability is also tested. Identifying optical issues early on helps patients to better understand what visual limitations they may have. Understanding your limitations allows you to work around them, instead of letting them hold you back.

Choosing Eyeglasses

If it is determined that you need corrective lenses to have optimum eyesight, we will assist you in determining which glasses will work best with your face shape and what color frame goes with your skin, hair, and eye color. We also provide different kinds of coatings for your eyeglasses, such as anti-reflective codeine that helps cut down on glare spots. If you are both farsighted and nearsighted you may benefit from bifocals or progressive lenses. We will go over all the different options in eyewear we provide, so you can find the kind that best fits you. At Henderson Eye Center, we offer an array of styles, frames, and colors of eyeglasses for you to choose from to find one that best fits your lifestyle and preferences. We offer designer frames for women and glasses for men to best fit your needs.

Contact Lenses

If you need lenses to see better but don’t want glasses, then contact lenses may be the right option for you. There are many different types of lenses available today to address your needs.  These include extended wear, disposables, rigid gas-permeable, and soft daily wear lenses. During your contact lens exam, precise measurements are taken to make sure you leave with the size and strength lens that’s right for you.
